Our Vision and Values

At Yalding St Peter and St Paul Primary School, we are a small village school with a strong sense of family, where everyone knows one another and every child is valued, known and cared for. Our close-knit community means that children know all of our teachers, and adults know and understand the children as individuals, celebrating their unique gifts, strengths and personalities. We believe that strong relationships are at the heart of a successful school and are proud of the warm, welcoming and supportive relationships between pupils, staff, parents, governors and the wider community.

We are committed to creating a learning environment that is inspiring, inclusive and supportive, where children feel safe, confident to take risks, learn from mistakes and grow as individuals. Our teaching and learning approach is child-centred and focuses on the development of the whole child — academically, socially, emotionally, physically and spiritually. We provide a broad and balanced curriculum designed to spark curiosity, build knowledge and nurture a lifelong love of learning.

From the moment children join us in Reception, we encourage them to become curious, motivated and independent learners. We want them to ask questions, explore ideas, be creative and develop the determination to persevere when learning becomes challenging. We celebrate success as a result of effort, ambition, resilience and personal growth, encouraging children to believe in themselves and recognise their own unique potential.

Our Christian Vision

Our school is guided by our Christian vision, drawn from John 10:10: “I came that they may have life and have it in all its fullness.” This vision is rooted in the Christian belief that every person is created in the image of God and is uniquely valued and loved. Jesus’ example of love, compassion, service and care for others inspires us to create an inclusive community where every child is supported to flourish.

We understand “life in all its fullness” as nurturing the whole child and enabling every pupil to develop their God-given gifts. We seek to provide opportunities for children to grow spiritually, morally, emotionally, socially, physically and academically, equipping them to live well with others and to make a positive contribution to the world around them.

Our Christian values of love, respect and responsibility underpin daily life at school. They shape how we care for one another, how we make decisions and how we respond to the needs of others. Through these values, we seek to create a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment where everyone feels valued, listened to and able to thrive.

Our Children as Agents of Change

We want our children to understand that they have the power to make a difference. We encourage them to become agents of change, recognising that their voices, choices and actions matter. Children are given opportunities to identify issues that are important to them and take practical action to make a positive difference, whether through creating posters to raise awareness, fundraising for others, supporting charitable causes or finding ways to care for their local community.

Our children also have a strong connection with the beautiful natural and community environment around our village. We encourage them to appreciate and care for creation, developing a sense of wonder and responsibility for the world in which they live. They enjoy spending time outdoors, whether fishing, biking, exploring or simply being outside, and these experiences help them to develop a genuine appreciation for nature and an understanding of why our environment should be valued and protected. We also value the rich opportunities our local community provides and actively encourage children to build meaningful connections with the people and places around them. Our strong relationship with Yalding Church is an important part of school life, providing opportunities for worship, reflection, celebration and developing an understanding of Christian faith and its place within our community. Alongside our links with the local library, Yalding Forge and other village organisations and community spaces, these experiences help children to develop a strong sense of belonging and understand that they are part of something bigger than our school. Through these connections, children learn to value their local community, care for others and recognise their responsibility to contribute positively to the places and people around them.

Through these experiences, we want children to recognise that making a difference does not always require a grand gesture. Small acts of kindness, compassion, responsibility and care can have a significant impact. We encourage our children to notice what needs to change, to have the confidence to act and to understand that they can contribute positively to the lives of others and to the world around them.

Nurturing the Whole Child

Alongside our Christian values, our Nurture Principles support children's emotional wellbeing and help them to understand themselves and others. These principles are explored and revisited throughout the year:

Weekly Recognition

Each week, children are celebrated for demonstrating these values in their learning and behaviour. They receive special certificates linked to the superhero they have shown most strongly, recognising their effort, attitude and achievements.
This weekly celebration helps to reinforce the importance of our values, encourages positive behaviour across the school and motivates children to continue developing as confident, responsible and resilient learners.
