SEND
At Yalding St Peter and St Paul Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that every child is valued, supported and given the opportunity to achieve their full potential. In line with the Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Code of Practice: 0–25 years (2014), we recognise that some children may need additional support during their time at school and we work closely with families and professionals to provide an inclusive environment where all pupils can thrive academically, socially and emotionally.
The SEND Code of Practice states that a child has Special Educational Needs (SEN) if they have a learning difficulty or disability which requires special educational provision to be made for them.
A child of compulsory school age is considered to have a learning difficulty or disability if they:
- Have a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of others of the same age; or
- Have a disability which prevents or hinders them from making use of facilities generally provided for others of the same age in mainstream schools or post-16 institutions.
At Yalding St Peter and St Paul Primary School, we follow the principles of the SEND Code of Practice by identifying needs early, putting appropriate support in place, reviewing progress regularly and working in partnership with parents, carers and external agencies to help every child achieve the best possible outcomes.
There are four broad areas of SEND need:
- Communication and Interaction
- Cognition and Learning
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties
- Sensory and/or Physical Needs
Our Mission Statement
At Yalding St Peter and St Paul Primary School, we value every child for their unique qualities, experiences and achievements. Our aim is to nurture confidence, resilience and self-belief in all pupils so that, when they leave our school, they are well prepared with the academic, social, emotional and behavioural skills needed for the next stage of their journey.
We maintain high expectations for every pupil and provide teaching and learning opportunities that are carefully adapted to meet individual needs, enabling each child to achieve their full potential. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where barriers to learning and participation are removed. We promote equality of opportunity and strive to provide a supportive yet challenging setting that celebrates diversity and recognises the success of every child.
Aims
We strive to provide a learning environment that is inclusive, adaptable and responsive to the needs of everyone within our school community. The progress of all pupils is closely tracked, with ongoing assessment and regular review to ensure that every child is supported to achieve their best.
Our whole-school provision includes regular progress discussions, collaborative working between staff and carefully planned interventions where needed.
In addition, we aim to:
- Identify pupils with additional needs as early as possible, including physical, sensory, social, emotional, communication or learning needs.
- Provide suitable support and provision so that all children can access the curriculum successfully.
- Ensure pupils are fully involved in every aspect of school life, enabling them to participate and achieve.
- Work in partnership with parents, pupils and external professionals to secure the best possible outcomes and future aspirations for each child.
